This might be funny to most people that read the storey. I've been in the repo/collection business for a long time but the term "Couch Payment" was around before I got into it, so the term isn't one I made up or a name I came up with. I was introduced to the couch payment term early , I had a stripper that lived in a apartment complex in a pretty nice neighborhood . I went to the young ladies door and knocked, I knew what work she was in as I went to her door but she was pretty far past due, she had allot of household furniture "Bedroom group, living room group and dining room group. This is the reason I had let her go so many times when I got her on the phone, my coworkers where saying it was her looks. Till this day I had never seen her. The young woman came to the door she only had a thin housecoat on, she was a very attractive young lady. I told her I was there to collect on the past due furniture payments. she said she understood, and I went on to tell her if payments where not made today the items would have to be returned! Then the young woman did something I didn't expect she let her hand go that was holding her robe closed. the young woman said we can come up with something that can make this not happen, I said no matter what we come up with it will not make your payments go away. The lady told me she wasn't looking for her payments to disappear just have a person give her time till next Friaday. she would be dancing that night. I told her this was sweet and flattering but the account would need to be paid on this day, don't get me wrong she was very hot! and standing in front of me with her robe open and nothing else on underneath, the only thing she was wearing was a small twitty bird on her left boob! I will admit it was hard but I enjoyed my job and at that time I was married and thought this wouldn't be fare to the marriage. I guess looking back and seeing what a tramp I was married too that part wouldn't mattered, it sure didn't to her. This was but of a few that I had addressed myself, and don't get me wrong not all looked like this lady. Some woman think if it's free it looks better, yuck. There was a time where I was working for one of them true rent-to-own companies where we worked long late hours and said and done some things walking that legal fence. Their was a guy named REV , that what we all called him, we all knew what he was doing in regards to couch payments. This man I knew of had 3 different woman he had on the side, what he did was pay the payments for them, the accounts where always late that's how we knew which customers he had on his couch payment plan. He had one lady who lived in the projects but her husband was in boot camp for the marines. It was a Friday and we had all been running accounts all day so we where meeting back to pair up for some late night runs. I looked up from the counter and in thru the door came a guy, his arms were as large as my legs!, he came in yelling "Where is this "MF" named REV! I knew what this was about as soon as I laid eyes on the guy. I told him he needed to calm down, and just tell me what this was all about, he said this REV guy has been forcing my wife to have sex with him! I told him if he was forcing himself on his wife he needed to call the police. The guy said it wasn't like that he was using the merchandise against her, that if she didn't have sex with him he would take back the items. I told him again if he used that also it's still a matter for the police but I would tell the manager when he returned to give him a call at his home, the guy went off again telling me he wasn't leaving until he kicked Revs' ass! The whole time this was going on I could hear Rev in the back saying to the guys in the back that they needed to help him, then I heard the bathroom door in the back slam and lock. I said listen guy I understand your anger but I can't let beat up a co-worker, he said you going to stop me! I said God no but I will have to call the police and the station is just up the road so they will be hear quick. I see you are military and I don't want to cause you any trouble. The guy seemed to calm down a bit, but he was pacing around the showroom after about 4 minutes, he yelled tell that "MF" I will see him when he leaves here tonight. the guy started slamming our posters around and kicking chairs over then went out the door he pushed so hard it slung off the hinges. The manager came into the store about 10 minutes later, I told him what was going on. The guy said I told him this was going to happen. I asked him, You knew he was doing this crap? He told me yes but he had told him he was going to get him in trouble. I told him this was a issue he should put a stop to, the legality alone is worth telling him to stop or face termination. The guy said it's his store not mine and he had took care of it, I told him his taking care of it almost took our doors off! I went back to the bathroom and knocked on the locked door and told Rev he could come out--he told me I was lying to him, it took 10min to get him out of the bathroom. The guy said he just went back into the bathroom just because he didn't want to start trouble at the store. I told him Bull you went into the bathroom to avoid getting killed! This is just a few examples of the problem with couch payments. I've run many stores and I would not allow any of this crap to go on, I would fire a guy in a second if I even thought one of my guys was doing this crap.
