I have said in these stories that I have worked for some good companies and some not so good, the true understanding of what I mean is a true Rent-To-Own company is different from these want to be finance rental companies. I had a old rent-to-own guy tell me once a long time ago "You can put Bow on a Turd it's still a Turd" This is what I believe some of these companies do. I was working for one of the true Rent-to-Own companies where the tactics are very aggressive to say the least. the normal working hours were 8am until 1 or 2 am mostly from wed till Monday, but wasn't uncommon to work 60 to 65 hours a week. this company paid what we called Chinese overtime and as far as I knew this was if you worked 20 hours over time you got paid $20.00 extra on your check? I never did find out how they did this they had a long form which was to explain it but we never could make it fit to our pay, they got sued for this I heard so they had to stop. I had been with this company for only a few weeks and it seemed like years we where working late again it was about 2:30 am on a Friday night and I was tired. I was with a guy who I didn't much care for and we where driving back to the store going down the interstate and this guy I was with was driving, and the rule was whoever drives gets control of the radio, he had this crap so loud that it was making my eyes hurt! I even asked him to turn the shit down. He said it only sounds good when played loud I told him this crap wouldn't sound good unless it was off. We are doing about 65 mph in a large box truck one of them Isuzu cube trucks.We had went around a curve with this crap blaring and moving pretty fast and I saw we were coming up on a bridge about this time I heard a very loud bang it sounded like something hitting the truck , I leaned over and cut the radio down and asked the guy "Did you hear that?" he said what? I told him what I had heard he said you are just saying this because I didn't want to hear his music! I said No I think someone took a shot at us or they threw something at the truck.The guy said I was crazy and turned the crap back up "I yelled the only thing making me crazy is this crap!" then I slipped further down in my seat and found that seat belt.When we got back to the store it was killing me to see if something had hit the cab of the truck. I was looking and I saw a hole in the front of the truck box just above the drivers head, if had been 4 inches lower it would have hit the guy between the eyes. We lifted up the back door of the truck and looked at the 1 inch hole in the truck box, we followed the path of the hole and found a huge hole in a sofa we had on back of the truck.I took the sofa to the edge of the truck and took my knife and cut around the hole from within the hole a large slug bullet came out, the kind that come from a shotgun! This slug would have brought down a bear! I will tell you when I saw this and how close this came to killing us , this was the first time I really thought about getting out of the collection business. I turned to the guy driving and said "See" asshole I told you someone was shooting at us! All I could see in his face was fear and he turned and walked over to the manager who was looking at the large hole in the truck and handed him the keys then said "This shit isn't worth it I quit" he walked over to where his car was located and drove away. It showed me how much people hate the repo/collection people.
